*g'enu-. Variant form *g'neu- `angle, knee'. 1a. Suffixed zero-grade
form *g'n.u-nt > Alb. Gheg <kân>, Toks <kënd> `angle, corner',
probably from *kaunt-, an Illyrian inherited consonantism: Gr. gonia;
b. adv. <anekënd> `in all directions, everywhere, throughout', copound
of synonymic pair <anë> `side, end, edge' and <kënd> `angle' make me
to think that *g'- could really be prefix as in *eg'-om (for last
example, see: Szemerényi "Itroduction to Indo-European Linguistics").
2. PAlb. <glunu>, probably through dissimilation n – n > l –n from
suffixed zero-grade form *g'nu:-nu: Gheg <guni>, Tosk <gjuri>, pl.
gjunj `knees': Skt. janu, Lat. genu, Gmc *knewam: Gr. gonu `id.'. It
is to be noticed that palatals, as in this case, as in the case above,
are treated in Albanian as pure velar, followed by nasals. (Pokorny 1.
g'enu- 380.)
