nit; imaginary monster, bugaboo'; 1b. Diminutive form <bubël> `knot,
small lump'; 1c. Denominative bubë-ron `to deluce; 1d. deverbative
<bubur-ec> `bug, ant', as well as buburezë `ladybug, ladybird' (cf.
Swedish bobba `insect', bubba `laus'; Sl. buba `id.'); 1e. <bub-a-
zhel> `sacred scarab, dung beetle'. 1f. <burbuqe/bubuqe>, also short
form <buqe> `bud' is probably the result of reduplicated form *bubuk-
ya (*ky > q) or a result of two different form *bur- and *buk-
II. Extended liquid form *bul- 1a. Alb. <bujë> `splash, fame, roar,
boom' probably from suffixed form *bul-ya (*ly > /j/); 1b.
bullungë `bump, swelling' probably from *bul-on-ko (cf. Skt. bulach:
OHD `Blätter'); 1c. <buljerë> `wooden keg for water' probably from
suffixed form *bul-er-eH2.
III. Dental extended form *but-. 1a. Prefixed loc. pl. *sp(h)ut-su >
Alb. <fuç-i> (*sp- > /f/, *tsh > /ç/) `tun, barrel, also strength,
force, power' : Gr. butane: NHD Bütte, Lat. buttis `id.'. There are
all chances that we have to deal with s-mobile. Probably the reason
to activate the s-mobile is to avoid homonymy with <puçërr> `pustule,
pock' suffixed form of *p(h)ut-su-er-naH2
III. Lengthened form *be:u-/*bo:u-. 1a. <bos> `turf, lump' probably
derived from abstract suffix ti (*e:u > /o/, *ti > ty > /s/) 1b.
Alb. <bym-oj/bym-ehet> `swell', probably from *b(h)u:-ma:-n-yo; 1c.
<poç> `flagon, light bulb, potbellied object' probably from variant
form *p(h)e:ut-su: voiced variant yields 5d. <boç-e> `flower bud,
round or conical husk'.
