>Lat. no:du- lost its /d/ regularly (all intervocalic voiced stops
>were lost in early Albanian) and the two syllables were contracted
>into *no:> *nö or *no (both outcomes are possible in Albanian,
>depending on the date of the borrowing);
Piotr, o: > e (is reflected Only on the first wave of Latin loans
Rom. pom <-> Alb. pemë < Lat. po:mus But not on the next waves) has
finished long before the lost of d in Albanian (somewhere between sec
VI-IX)
So no:dus > *nedu is for sure the first stage and from there the
possible forms coudl be only *neu > *ne

Marius
P.S. see also the explanations of Alb nye < Lat no:dus to other
authors that suspect an evolution from the pl. form ...trying to
avoid the difficulties...
