I daresay my derivation, while not so different from that of Demiraj
(who also assumes contraction in an originally dissylabic form --
indeed, what else could be assumed?), is more straightforward. It starts
with the normal strong form of the PIE accusative (cf. Skt. tva:m,
tuva:m). The weak form was *t(w)e, yielding <të>. I can't see what could
be wrong here.

Oh yes, I can and do exclude it. The nominative was monosyllabic and the
*u: was final, so it has developed regularly into /i/, not into /y/. The
nominative, in case you haven't noticed yet, is <ti>.

It would be nice to have many of them, but the sequence in question is
rare and I'm glad there is some independent support at all.
