Well, go ahead and launch your 'Refutation of the Law of Palatals'.
It may get stomped on by another moderator as flogging a dead horse -
you claims will certainly be met with incredulity.
Richard.

Patrick:
Thank you. That is very gracious.
Well, let us see how this goes.
ASSUMPTIONS
1. In the earliest stage of PIE, PIE had one vowel *a and its allophone *6.
2. All consonants had no glide, a palatal glide, or a velar glide.
3. Later PIE *kW and *gW were, at this stage, *x and *G.
4. In the middle stage of PIE, glides were eliminated, with the following
modifications:
a. Coronal aspirated stops retained the glides: *dhW > *dhw; *thW > *thw;
b. Dorsals were palatalized: *gY > *g^; *ghY > *g^h; *kY > *k^; *khY >
*k^h.
5. Dorsal spirants were stopped and velarized: *G > *gW; *x > *kW.
a. Dorsal spirants with former palatal glides were additionally
palatalized: *GY > *g^w; *xY > *k^w.
6. PIE contained two 'larnygeals' at this point: *? and *h.
7. At this stage, Indo-Iranian was separated from the rest of the PIE
community, which went on to subsequently develop *e and *o < *6; and *Ø from
*a.
8. All subsequent modifications of II consonants are independent of the
following vowel.
a) An immediately following *y, *i, or *e (from *ai) could, however,
palatalize a preceding dorsal.
b) OI g and gw fell together into g; OI k and kw fell together into k.
9. Late PIE *g remains OI g
Late PIE *k remains OI k
Late PIE *g^ or *gy/i/e > OI j
Late PIE *k^ or *ky/i/e > OI ç
Late PIE gh remains OI gh
Late PIE kh remains OI kh
Late PIE g^h or *ghy/i/e > OI h
Late PIE k^h or *khy/i/e > OI ch
10. Combined with s-mobile:
*s+*k remains sk
*s+*k^ or *ky/i/e > c
*s+*kh remains skh
*s+*k^h or khy/i/e > ch
NOTE that these e's are all /e:/ from ai.
11. In rócate:, I believe we are dealing not with *léuketoi bur rather
*láuksatai, and that it is ks that becomes c.
Listmembers, I am _not_ announcing this as the revealed truth!
I am only asking you to help me investigate _whether_ it might be true.
