And in fact <King> (in various spellings) is a not uncommon
medieval English byname, from which it's clear that it was
used as a descriptive nickname. As for <König>,
Brechenmacher describes it as 'alter u[nd] überaus
beliebter, bei den verschiedensten Anlässen zugeteilter
Ü[ber]N[amen]'.
