Except for the exceptions :-)? I hope you don't believe this
east-to-west directionality to be some kind of immutable law, since it
would make the Tarim basin the only viable homeland for the IEs.

What about the Russian "eastward-ho"? ;-)

If it hadn't been for the Huns, the consequences of the East Germanic
expansion to Ukraine would have been more lasting. Note also that the
Hunnish and Tartar incursions from the steppes were carried out by
"classic" mounted nomads -- a style of life which developed pretty late
in history.
