With the laryngeal theory intact, *?es- and *bHer-
both have the exact same ablaut (zerograded
*?s- and *bHr-). In your laryngeal-less theory, you
have to make up excuses why it's instead **es- and
*bHr- even though they have the same vowel.
That _is_ the decisive point. Your idea is more
laborious in comparison to the consensus view.
