To complicate matters:

Swedish haffa "grasp" and kapa 1) "cut", dial. kappa, 2) steal,
hijack (the Swedish-Danish dictionary offers as parallel Danish hugge
(cognate with Engl. hew) "cut" -> "pinch (ie. steal)". I like my
sickle-harvesting analogy better.

If so, it's curiously geographically limited. Other peoples don't
seem to have realised its rather naturalness.
