Erh, me don't get it... Here's the apparent scenario
at the onset of the satem isogloss:
Centum dialects (at least most of them):
*k > *k
*q > *k
All Satem dialects:
*k > *c^
*q > *k
Satem dialects could not evolve the way they did if
the common IE sound system performed *q > *k "before
the breakup" because this stop must be _marked_. It
simply cannot be "plain" when IE was first
fragmenting into dialects.
So I fail to understand what you mean by "breakup",
Miguel :) Naturally, IE proper can only have
*k-*q-*kW where *q represents "a marked phoneme of
some kind" (for those who dislike uvularity for some
reason).
