And note that this is unproblematic for the uvular
interpretation of IE because *a is supposed to be
capable of being a valid phoneme anyway. It would
violate one of the most basic language universals
if the IE theory were to lack a [-high] phoneme
afterall. So, I would just write these as *kad-,
*kas-, *kanq- and *kat- respectively with plain *k
and phonemic (non-coloured) *a.
