Getting that fact into my "a's and plain k's are loaned" scheme is a
brain-teaser. I think this will work:

*k^a- is from loaned *c^a-.
The centum languages regularised *k/*c^ (trad. *k^) to *k, so loaned
*c^a got caught up in the purge and became *ka- (cf. French
[jus] /z^ü/ -> Sw. /s^ü/ "aspic", but Dan. /skü?/).
The satem languages regularised *k/*c^ (trad. *k^) to *c^, so c^ of
loaned *c^a fell together with that.
Result: centum *ka-, satem *sa-, which leads to the trad.
