--- In cybalist@yahoogroups.com, "C. Darwin Goranson"
quotes Lehmann 2002 speculating on the significance for the I.-E.
homeland of the Black Sea having been a fresh-water lake with a now
flooded wide coastal zone until about 7.5 ka. as proposed by Ryan and
Pitman.
To be honest, I haven't read their book, but I believe their
theory has been demolished by Aksu, Hiscott et al. Their 2002 paper in
GSA Today is on the Web (find it yourself -- it's got an ungodly long
address I can't seem to copy). Basically, extensive seismic surveys
in the Sea of Marmara show a delta quietly prograding southward
through the time R & P call for a mighty cataract northward.
