How do you get from PIE *bhére-ti to PGerm *bériDi (I assume you
mean)? Doesn't Verner predict *bériTi?


BTW Doesn't 'Suevi' vs. Schwaben and the Danish village Svogerslev (by
folk etymology from Suawærslæv (vel sim.)) place PGerm. /e:/ > /a:/
(and, for systematic reasons, /a:/ > /o:/ too) in time?
