I've been working on my own theory (of Pre-PIE) so I'd like to explain
these in those terms. I have one laryngeal which I'll write as H
(which is similar to H2), and 4 vowels /i u e a/. Word initially and
before liquids, glides and nasals these vowels are lowered (with **a >
0). Under certain conditions in Sanskrit **a > i (which I'll write as &).
The suffix in all of these is **-atir > *-&ter. I would then reconstruct
**dhugH+atir > *dhug(h)&ter (H aspirates preceeding consonants in
Sanskrit)
**ap+atir > *p&ter
**bh(a)ra+atir > *bhra:ter
**ma+atir > *ma:ter
The laryngeal in *dhug(h)&ter is purely coincidental.
