Would it not be better to call these phones coronals rather than dentals? To go by the articulatory (part of the) organ rather than the point of articulation? Similarly, dorsals rather than velars or palatals.

 

Also, I favor the idea that PIE did aspirate <dh>, which came from /dz/ as a way of maintianing its integrity against <d> (/d/).
