I have the feeling many of the names which are mentioned by Herodotus
have been told to him by people who have been in the South of Danube,
people who have had already some phonetic changes in their speach.
I mean Atlas is known as Alutas and it is today Olt (in Rom). Homer says
Atlas but we do know about another name as being Alutas, thus one of
these two words is the methathetic one.
The same about "Ordessos" which is "Argesh". Intersting in my opinion,
the phonetic aspects of the rivers as presented by Herodot present kind
of Albanoid sound changes: Arges > Ordes; Alutas > Atlas, etc. I wonder
how much such aspects can be extracted from such kind of comparations.
