I don't think so. It would be unnatural in a language where
unstressed vowels have a tendency to weaken, but Common
Slavic was not such a language. But even when unstressed
vowels are not weakened, a stressed vowel has a greater
potential for absorbing neighbouring (unstrssed) vowels,
which is what Stang claims happened here ('Ìa > 'ã).
