That's most likely a later Hindu or Buddhist mythological
interpretation, though. The Avestan cognate 'vazra-' is
given as "club, mace", and I tend to think that a better
description of the original weapon. However I was using
Sanskrit examples, and the online Monier-Williams with its
awfully busy and difficult to summarize definitions, and
so decided to just go with "some sort of weapon". :^)
I often have a problem trying to decide what to cull from
a Monier-Williams entry when citing Sanskrit in situations
like this.
