(4) When responding to others' postings, quote only those fragments of the
original message that you want to reply to. In particular, do not quote
whole threads. Make sure that the quotations are properly marked, so that
one can easily see who wrote what.


The above item of etiquette is the one most ignored by posters on our List -
and probably the most irritating. The occasional lapse into discussion of
pre-PIE is much less offensive, to my mind. If it can be done without
impeding Listers' passion for their topics, it would certainly be nice to
see our Digests reduced to about a quarter of their lengths.
