Or nativ-ised. How would we tell the difference? Think of -ess in English,
which is thoroughly nativised, but which goes back through Latin to Greek,
where it is an alien import. So -ess is probably not even Indo-European in
origin. But could we tell that just from the way -ess operates in English
today?
