Wulfilas (aka Ulfilas ) created the Gothic alphabet in order to bring
Christianity and the Bible to the Goths.
My layman's understanding is that he supposedly based the letters on
a mix of Greek and Latin... though some say runes were involved as
well. IMO it would certainly make sense for him to add in runic
elements if there were an easy crossover as it would make the
language that much easier to grasp.
