OPl, R "mir", S/Cr mi^r, OCS mirU, Cz mi:r < PS *mirU << IE * mei- ("nice,
kind, pleasant" or "mutual contact") + suff. -ro- (similarly in Alb mirë
"good"); OLit mieras & Lat miers seem to be from Slav. Originally perhaps
"friendly coexistence".
