Pavel, I doubt this conclusion of yours can ever be backed up by any prooves
(oppose me if I'm mistaken).

"vary", in my opinion, must be of the same origin as "var^it", "vr^i't" (to
boil) < IE *wer- "to burn, to be hot" etc., since this place is a famous
(geothermal) spa, moreover, its German form is Carlsbad from which it must
be clear what the second word means. Only that you claimed there was a
semantic link between "burn, be hot" (boil) on the one side, and what you
think Hung. "var" denotes, and gave me some supporting arguments, would I
agree and accept your thought.

As for Hostivar^, I can imagine something similar. I understand it as
either:

a) a place where altar-bread (host) is produced (this is doubtful)
b) a place where guests are boiled (this is crazy)
c) a spa for/founded by/used by/owned by guests/strangers/foreigners
(maybe)

Pavel, try etymologizing those expressions and you'll get to something
more...reliable. But you always have to check it in local histories.
