Hi. I'm new in the group and not very experienced in IE languages,
but in my studies I've encountered some sort of a paradox regarding
the origin of romanian "varsã" ("liquid flow, spill") indicated as
from lat. versare.
As E. Benvensite proved (1969), words which resulted from PIE
*wers- in latin, greek, IIR, etc. were connected to "reproduction".
All those meanings are suposed to be derived from or unified by skr.
varsati ("rain"), because little or new born animals were often
refered to as "drops of water".
As long as the above is correct, I'm puzzled by the meaning of
rom. varsã (inf. vãrsa) "make liquid flow or spill" which maintained
almost the exact meaning of skr. varsati (the oldest known example
of PIE *wers-).
