I could read about the etymology of the OCS "kriz^I" (cross) that the
word should be a loan from OHG "chruzi".
Pudic^ shows that there are heavy trouble in deriving the Slavic word
from OHG word; Pudic^ means the word could be a loan from Balkanlatin
and he argues with the friulian word "kros" which should derive from a
VLat *kroge.
From this form (*kroge) it should be easy to derive the OCS "kriz^I".
Because Alb. has "q" (kryq) and Rom. & Dalmat points too to an "k"
then the Balkanlatin should be considered as not being the word where
from the OCS word derive. More, it is said, as sacral word, the word
"kriz^I" is known in Slavic just in WestSlavic and partly by
SouthSlavic.
To me appears interesting the specification about the sacral and non
sacral meaning of the word. So, I should ask if someone know, which
are the actualy reflexes of OCS "kriz^I" in actualy Slavic languages
and which are their profane meaning.
