In Albanian, the saint names are: Joseph > Zef, with aphaeresis of
initial syllable (I fear to this name belongs also common patronymic
Gjosh; see below /j/>/gj/); John > Alb. Gjon with regular evolution
of Latin /j/ > gj; Peter > Pjetër with regular diphthonged /e/

diphthong /au/>/a/, until Sanctus Jacobus, to my view, first derives
Albanian patronymic Gjakja, besides new forms Jak and Jakov.
Taking into account the noticed deep transformation they have gone,
there is probably sure that, as was claimed also in Britannica, Proto-
Albanians accept Christianity about the middle of the 1st century AD,
nevertheless (O tempora! O mores!) today they are so much hated as
muslims.
