And if it's late stress movement that causes the "new" ablaut variant
we can determine what it was from perf. sg. where stress movement in
the sg. (the pl. endings were too heavy) then must be responsible for
the o-grade. Thus it's nom. *pe:s, acc. *podm. (from all. *pdém),
gen. *pdés.
