Writing about common Albanian-(pre-)Romanian dictionary, I find out
that Rom. word <baliga> `dung' is one of these words. Albanian
counterpart <bajgë> of Tosk dialect seems to be regular outcome of
Rom. <baliga> through Alb. soundlaw li > lj > j, generally attested
in Albanian inherited lexicon and in loan words. This metathetic
form is also present in South-Slavic languages as <balega>,
<baloga>, <galeba> `id.' , except the Bulgarina. But, Geg form is
<bagla> 'dung', denominal <bagëlon> 'to dung', forced me to
conclude that Rom. and Tosk forms are metathetic one.
Further, I believe that this word could be a loan of Germanic root
*bhaH2gh- `Schlamm' (Pokorny) or, perhaps, due to suffixed form in –
la, it could be of Illyrian origin. For me are not based the
assumptions that it could be of Turkic or Italian origin, because it
is not present in Bulgarian.
Any comment?
