I think you are right (I was criticising the Vienna doctrine, not
advocating it). It has become customary in some quarters of IE
studies to reconstruct (or even quote) the relative pronoun
as "*Hyós", if not exactly "*H1yós". I think those who do so have
forgotten that we have three *different* laryngeals in IE.
