Alright, but what if Atlas was conceived of as the symbol of Human
Strife? As such he is the "Unenduring" because mortal humankind IS
involved in this symbol of burden... and death takes us all, threatening
us like a large burden on our daily lives. This way, we don't need
a useless prothetic.
