FWIW, we do have Old Norse _rjóða_ 'to bloody', Sanskrit
_rudHira_ 'red, bloody', and Pali _lohita_ 'red, blood'.

My reading tells me that the colour term 'red' used to be anchored
by the colour of blood. Whether PIE speakers had ruddy (another
derivative of *h1reudH) faces, I don't know.
