I'm not into textology and other philological issues (the genesis of Old
Russian chronicles being a very complex and controversial question to be
just "explained among other things", though), but at least the language of
the Chronicle bears characteristical local (pertaining to the Novgorodian
dialects) traits. Besides, some passages of the Chronicle definitely concern
the local events (getting into detail) hardly concerning the southern
regions. At any rate, I'll check the passage in question myself in some
hours -- I'm getting curiuos about it.
