Hi,

Ah yes, it seems that K.H.Wiik now has soulmates even in sunny California:)

But as a native Finn, I have to remind the readers of this IE forum that the mainstream of Finnish Uralicists views many/most of Wiiks ideas as totally false. A good example of this attitude is Merlijn de Smits

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/3093/voodoo.html

And a devastating critique of K.H.Wiiks theory (according to which there is Uralic/Fenno-Ugric substratum in proto-Germanic) can be found in these two articles:

http://www.tieteessatapahtuu.fi/897/PARPOLA.pdf

http://www.tsv.fi/ttapaht/983/kallioym.html

Unfortunately they are only in FinnishI hope that I need not spend my tightly budgeted time in translating these two articles into English, not least because as an amateur I might mistranslate technical terms of comparative historical linguistics and hence only sow more confusion

Cheers, Juha Savolainen
