One obvious mistake here (perhaps just a typo): nivem > neve (not
*nEve). Hence Dalmatian nai, with open-syllable treatment of *e (*E
would have produced /i/, as it did in *pede). *bove > bu is also regular
in open syllables in Dalmatian (cf. locum > luk). These examples confirm
the correctness of my earlier suspicion that after the loss of final
vowels any *j or *v exposed at the end of a word was simply dropped.
