Sicilian "muzzicari", It. "morsicare" `to bite` < Late Latin
"morsica:re" <
"morsus" (p.p. of "mordere"). Most probably, pretonic -rsi- > -rS- >
-S- in
Romanian, by absorption of the short unstressed /i/ in palatalized
consonant
preceeding it and reduction of the strange consonant nexus [rSk] in
the
simplest way, eliminating the thrill.

Also "ucide" < Lat. "occidere" is widespread in language (it is
basically
synonymous with "omorî", but slightly more "trenchant" than Slavic
verb in
some detail connotations). And no, it is not a new word since it
appears in
ancient texts (even with analogical forms in some of them: "ucigu").
That
should be 50/50. :-)

That could be modified to 96.5 VL and 2.5 Slavic, but the difference
is not so significant. It would be interesting to compare it with --
say -- French or Spanish.
