is this word cognate with German "eifer"? If yes what is its etymology?
For Germ. "eifer" I found there is no accepted etymology and it appears
to be seen as non IE-word.
I guess this is an IE word because of Rom. cognate "aprig" ( Reg.
apric).
The meaning of Rom. word is the one where the German word appeared first
time (Luther's tzranslation fo the bible where he used for Latin "zelus"
the word "eifrig" with the sense of "leiblicher Zorn" but "Zorn Gottes"
too".

Rom. aprig =fiery; passionate; hot-blooded; harsh, hard-hearted, unknown
etym.

Thoughts?
