This question would have been better asked on Nostratic-L, or a list
specifically dedicated to the discussion of Finnish, Japanese, Uralic or
Altaic languages.

The main focus here on Cybalist is Indo-European languages, and neither
Finnish nor Japanese are Indo-european.

To answer the question. Japanese is possibly related to the Altaic
languages (Korean, Tungusic, Mongolian and Turkic). Finnish is a Uralic
language (Finnic, Ugrian and Samoyedic). The Ural-Altaic hypothesis
linking Uralic and Altaic has been out of fashion for a long time. The
unity of Altaic itself is questioned. It is possible that Uralic and
"Altaic" both belong in the Nostratic super-family (together with IE).
