ANY -iu- that follows a stressed syllable. What I mean is, words in
-ium/-iam and -eum/-eam were treated in the same way -- not just in
Romanian, but generally in Romance. Cf. Vulg.Lat. pláteam > [plátja-] >
Rom. piatzã, Fr. place, It. piazza, Sp. plaza, Cat. plaça, Port. praça.
