Pokorny only suggests that ap- is the preposition *ap(o)- "off".

Just guessing, but the root part might then be *rei-, *reik- "scratch,
line" (> E. row, G. Reihe). Perhaps rays (lines, rows) coming down (from
the sun): Latin <apri:cum> "sunshine".
