It probably isn't, especially because the quantity of Avestan high
vowels is not necessarily etymological. On the other hand, I think that
Avestan has <su:ni:s^> 'bitch', also with long /u:/ (I can't check it up
tonight), which would indicate some _consistency_ in exhibiting a
long-vowelled nil grade.
