Yes, but there need not be a general explanation. Especially since it is
probably the case we are dealing with analogy here. But, concerning
*wl.'kwos, if we accept Illich-Svitych's PIE origin of BaltoSlavic
accentuation, it is worth mentioning that Lithuanian vil~kas (a. p. 4) and
Slavic *v6lk7 (a. p. c) point to the PIE oxytone, not barytone. Maybe BSl
keeps the trace of the archaic PIE *wlkwós with the original oxytonic tone.
