The English adjective is <Ausonian> (Lat. ausonius <-- Gk. ausonios from
<ausonia:> 'Italy', <ausones> 'Italians'), used as a poetic term for
Lower Italy or Italy in general. The classical etymology derives the
name from that of Auso:n, son of Calypso (?) by Odysseus, who had
allegedly settled there.
