For "year", Buck's "Synonyms" gives Avestan 'sared-',
OPers. 'thard-' (theta-like letter), NPers. 'sal', with an Osset.
cognate meaning "summer" and Sanskrit cognates meaning "autumn"
and "yer".. He suggests "perh. as orig. "warm season" :
Lith. 'silius' (with hacek on s) "August", 'silti' "grow warm";
Lat. 'calere' "be warm"". (IE *kel-)
