On discovery channel there was film showing big African tree. The
tree gets obviously sweet fruits. Delicacy for elephant's giraffe and
monkeys.

So the answer for alcohol resistance gene spread may be 10 millions
years ago. I mean the time when the gene may be needed. When the gene
occurred it is another question.
And looking on elephant empting small pound it looks the other
animals and monkeys didn't get this gen. The hangover was certainly
elephant hangover.
