I haven't looked up its etymology, but (assuming that the Ukrainian word is
cited correctly) I'd be surprised if it represented anything else than a
figurative use of homonymous <huska> 'little goose' (the diminutive of
<hus'> < *go~sI).

2. "huSte" (only plural) < Ukr. "husca" (`husk`)

You surely mean Ukr. hus^c^a 'something thick' < *go~stja, a derivative of
*go~stU 'thick, dense'. Needless to say, the words are unrelated to each
other, and neither of them has anything to do with Rom. hoaspã or with Eng.
husk (despite the similarity, which turns out to be deceptive, as usual in
historical linguistics). I really doubt if this topic deserves to be
continued.
