Easy. The Roman armies were comprised of people who had been
oppressed for a long time, living on an inadequate diet of bread,
lentils and garum (fish paste). Do that for three generations and
your children will be midgets. Similarly, since World War II, the
median height of Japanese children has shot up to equal their
European counterparts. The so called "midget Japs" of WWII are a
thing of the past. Or if more proof is needed - walk into a peasant
hut of the 17th century (and mind your head on the ceiling posts and
tops of the doors!)
