Hi,
Peter Ellis mentions a few things in one of his books (the Celtic Empire)
that I am a little uncertain about. He says the following:
"Tacitus, in his work Germania,....says it was the Celts of Gaul who
first designated the entire group of tribes."
But I don't recall Tacitus saying specifically that it was the Gauls who
designated them with the term Germani.
He also says:
"We have seen that at Clastidium in 222 B.C. the Germans, making their
first appearance in recorded history, were found fighting for the Celts
against Rome."
How certain is this?
also:
"By 120 B.C. the Germans were pushing into former Celtic territory..."
Where did he get this date of 120 B.C.?
-Michael
