I didn't know there was that much of an increase. Medieval Norse
skeletons have been found to be aroun 6'2 in height, ancient Germanic
peoples have been found to be anywhere from 5'8 to well over 6 feet, and
I remember reading about one Late Hallstatt/early La Tene Celtic
Chieftain who was 6 ft. And I wouldn't think that there'd be much of a
difference with modern populations in these areas. Maybe stature shrunk
in the middle ages?

I was thinking that since he was of a higher social class that he had a
better diet than the majority of soldiers, though I don't know anything
about his childhood life.
