Those with limited browsers (e.g. some types of TV browser) or
limited German may be interested to know that I have created an
English index to on-line Pokorny. It's split up into pages small
enough for a TV browser (the largest being 38k). The German index
http://flaez.ch/cgi-bin/pok.pl is over ten times larger. The
English glosses are a mixture of Bird's (taken from Peter Gray's
list in the files section), Starostin's and my translations of
Pokorny's German glosses. (The three sometimes diverge quite
alarmingly!)
I intend to translate the IE root forms to Cybalist convention and,
in the longer terms, restore the laryngeals. I'm not sure how to do
that for invalid roots! (Look at the roots in h- and weep!)
There'll be enough trouble with valid roots such as ?e?l- 'elbow'.
(Is it *h1eh3l- or *h3el-?) The index been published in its
incomplete state because I'm ditching my TV browser, and once I've
done that, I won't be able to check viewability.
I'm considering setting up indexes for all three dorsals (k, k^, kW)
for when one is not sure which one is dealing with. I'm not sure
how to split that one up. It will be too large for a TV browser.
The URL for the index is
